Northumberland: Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh Castles
I've been visiting Northumberland since I was a kid, on family holidays. I don't know if I fully appreciated it back then, but it is truly an astonishing county, most especially on its coast. The beaches are as pristine as can be, and looming over them are these sublime castles. Bamburgh is in incredible condition, it reminds me of Jodhpur's Meherangarh fort in India, as it looms over the village. Dunstanburgh is the perfect ruin, breaking the horizon like jagged teeth, when seen from the North. The county is perfectly suited to panoramic photography.
These pictures would be an ideal gift for yourself, of course, or for anybody interested in the region—and the locals are fiercely, and rightly, proud of what they have there.
