Vertical Art Prints

The vertical format—especially this extreme version—is the most challenging and rewarding form of panorama. It evokes the style of Chinese and Japanese scroll paintings, compressing perspective and demanding a new form of visualisation, from both the photographer and the viewer. Computer screens cannot show them to their best advantage: they are best proudly placed on your wall (and they have the virtue of fitting where a standard panorama won't). There's no doubt about my favourites here: the Radcliffe Blossom shot captures, for me, the essence of the Japanese artistic theme of Spring emerging from Winter, as the blossom breaks through the snow, in the gardens opposite Oxford's Radcliffe Camera. Bamburgh Dawn, meanwhile, offers a unique take on perhaps Britain's most photographed castle. These would make perfect photographic gifts for anybody with a little bit of extra flair.
